E-mu Systems has several new announcements, including the Proteus X Desktop Sound Module, support 192 kHz audio on the 0404, an Emulator X version 1.5 update, and the 3-volume Vintage X Pro Sound Library. With the version 1.71 software release, support for 192 kHz audio has been added to the 0404 Digital Audio System (Win). The 0404 was first released with 24-bit, 192 kHz converters, but originally shipped with 96 kHz software drivers. Version 1.71 now delivers 24-bit, 192 kHz I/O functionality. The update will be available in December, 2004 as a free download to all current 0404 owners at http://www.emu.com www.emu.com. Emulator X (Win) version 1.5 has also been announced. The update adds integrated effects to E-mu''s Desktop Sampling Systems, offering two discrete software effects processors per preset with MIDI modulation (including wet/dry mix at the sample level), and three effects processors per Multi Setup (up to 67 simultaneous effects are possible). The new software effects are in addition to Emulator X''s hardware-accelerated effects that can be used standalone or as VST plug-ins within digital audio sequencers. Emulator X''s new Single View Screen and Audition from Disk features speed up the sound selection.

Proteus X ships with over 2 GB of sounds and thousands of presets, including a Stereo Grand Piano, the full Proteus 2000 sound set, a Hip-Hop producer bank, and Beat Shop 24-bit drums and grooves. Proteus X also supports other sound formats, including EOS, EIII, GigaSampler, Akai, HALion, EXS24, SoundFont 2.1, and WAV. It can be used standalone or as a VSTi, and it supports hard disk streaming and playback from RAM. Proteus X ships with the 0404 Digital Audio System interface and features WDM, DirectSound, and ASIO 2.0 drivers for Windows 2000 and XP. Proteus X will be available in November.
