Steinberg Cubase 6
Cubase 6 and Cubase Artist 6 offer a bevy of new features, including enhanced workflow features within the Project window and the Track Edit Groups option allowing related events on multiple tracks to be grouped and edited simultaneously. Other features include Lane Track for convenient multitake comping, a redesigned transient and automatic tempo detection, phase-accurate audio quantization and drum replacement functions to smooth out any glitches in live-recorded drum tracks.

Avid Pro Tools HD, Pro Tools 9
The latest version of Pro Tools comes in HD1, HD2 and HD3 Accel packages as before. However the feature set is greatly enhanced with the addition of Heat (Harmonically Enhanced Algorithm Technology) by designer Dave Hill (Crane Song). Heat offers a system-wide option where tracks can be opted into the Heat effect, which promises to offer warmth and vintage realism within the Pro Tools DAW. Pro Tools 9 also comes in a Native platform that comes with a single PCIe card and operates exactly like HD TDM excluding Heat and TDM plug-ins ($3,495). Pro Tools 9, which replaces LE, now offers delay compensation and the option to take it up a notch with the optional Complete Production Toolkit ($1,995).

Cakewalk SONAR X1
X1 is the next evolution of Cakewalk''s SONAR Series DAW workstation software for the PC platform. The $399 flagship SONAR X1 Producer bundle (also offered in a $199 SONAR X1 Studio and $99 SONAR X1 Essential versions) includes Native 32-bit and 64-bit Windows applications, with unlimited tracks, pro effects, world-class virtual instruments and creative production tools. X1 sports Skylight, a revamped user interface supporting multiple monitors and widescreen displays, and faster workflows, such as customizable Control Bars and MultiDock for tweaking the screen to user preferences. The new Pro Channel brings re-creations of classic FET channel and bus compressors, musical 6-band equalizers and a variable Tube Saturation stage to every mix channel.
