Native Instruments has announced Absynth 3 (Mac/Win; $339), which includes new oscillator functions, additional effects, and support for multichannel use. The company has also announced the freeware app Traktor Beatport Player. Absynth 3 can be used in surround environments ranging from 3.1 to 8.0, with dedicated surround panning sections in each oscillator channel. Panning envelopes and LFOs offer control over spatial movement.
Absynth 3's oscillators include a real-time fractalize mode and frequency shifting modulation. Each oscillator can be used in free-running mode and in unison, to combine up to eight detuned oscillators simultaneously. The live input mode lets you process three external stereo signals at once, routing each into a separate oscillator channel for individual treatment with filters, waveshaping, envelopes, and effects.
The synth includes an updated user interface, an enhanced envelope editor with multiple breakpoint selection, copy and paste functionality, and a real-time envelope cursor. Absynth 3 comes with over 1000 presets. For more information, visit http://www.ni-absynth.com www.ni-absynth.com.

The program features two decks with waveform displays, pitch faders, a crossfader, and a playlist with a music library and browser. A wide range of compressed and uncompressed file formats is supported, including MP3, AAC, WMA, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, and audio CDs. The Traktor Beatport Player can import iTunes playlists and collections, and Traktor mix files. The Traktor Beatport Player will be made available in November 2004 together with the launch of Beatport 2.0. Click here for more on Beatport.
