Spectrasonics has begun shipping the Stylus RMX Realtime Groove Module (Mac/Win; $299: $99 to upgrade from the classic Stylus). Stylus RMX is the first product to combine Groove Control with Spectrasonics Advanced Groove Engine (S.A.G.E.) technology. Other features include the Chaos Designer, a redesigned multi-page user interface, and a new core library of sounds.

The new 7.4 GB core library includes thousands of grooves and sounds, as well as thousands of new Kit modules. The sound menus include over 10,000 new single hits, arranged by category. Users can create their own customized multitrack grooves and kits and save them into the plug-in.

Stylus RMX is also Spectrasonics'' first expandable virtual instrument. A series of five new S.A.G.E. Xpanders ($99 each) for the instrument are available. Stylus RMX can be further expanded with existing Groove Control CD-ROM libraries as well as REX files.

Stylus RMX is 8-part multitimbral and supports eight stereo outputs. The built-in mixer has eight channels, with four Aux sends and controls for mute/solo, level, and output assignments. In addition, three hours of video tutorials are included. For more information, visit www.spectrasonics.net.
